This certification is essentially a “license to work” as an HVAC service technician since it is required for all technicians who want to purchase, transport or handle refrigerants. The preparation session is a comprehensive yet concise review and will cover all topics of knowledge necessary to pass the Universal Exam. All four parts of the exam will be offered: CORE, TYPE I, TYPE II and TYPE III. The CORE section must be taken by anyone that is seeking Section 608 certification. Technicians can choose to test in any or all phases of this exam. Passing all four parts of the test will certify the candidate as a “Universal Technician”. Technicians who attend will earn 4 NATE CEHs toward re-certification in Air Conditioning and/or Heat Pump specialties. Applicants should be prepared to present photo ID.
